Social Norms Diagnostic Co-Lab

A CGAP and FinEquity collaborative peer learning effort.

  • To identify the relationship between gender based social norms and women’s access to and use of financial services for women’s economic empowerment.
  • To determine opportunities to work around and to shift social norms influencing women’s uptake and use of financial services.
  • Test and validate Social Norms Diagnostic Guidance developed based on a study on social norms affecting Syrian refugees in Turkey in 2019. The experiences of the Co-Lab will be used to improve the guidance for implementation in different contexts.
  • Document case studies and concrete examples of norms affecting women’s access to, use of and benefit from financial services which will be used by CGAP to inform the development of learning products for broad dissemination to the industry.
